My 16-year old granddaughter Claire is going to India in June as a volunteer for RisingStar Outreach.org in which she will be helping families with leprosy. To find out more about this amazing trip, read on.
In India people with leprosy are rejected and forced to live in remote leprosy colonies Rising Star Outreach assists these families by educating their children, offering medical treatment, and giving them a way to become more self-sufficient.
Claire will be taking this trip with other students from her high school, Park City High School (in Park City, Utah) in a group called the Park City 5 (PC5). This group started in 2008 and is funded by the parents of five teenage students of Park City who passed away that year. The funding was for five service trips abroad and this trip to India is the last of the five. Ironically one of those five students died in the Alps while on a European student art history appreciation trip with Claire’s sister Grace.
The 20-some students making this trip to India will be tutoring children, assisting the families in daily activities and working in a medical team. Claire is very excited to be participating in this humanitarian endeavor.
Each of the volunteers is expected to raise at least $4000 to help pay for the program. If you would like to make a donation you may do so at http://risingstaroutreach.donorpages.com/ParkCity5Session/ClaireWhitney/
They will be leaving for India on June 22, 2013, and returning I believe on July 7. I will post a reminder on June 22 to access Claire’s blog at clairewhitney.com and follow this group on their exciting journey.
