Every yard on our street is illuminated this evening by luminarias and fireflies.
A few days ago the 30-year old son of our across-the-street neighbor died from a massive heart attack. His mother found him in his car in the driveway. It is a really sad time for this family and the friends and neighbors who care about them.
This evening a couple down the street placed a bag of sand with an illuminated candle on the sidewalk in front of each house so the family would be greeted by this showing of love and support as they returned from the wake. Even the fireflies came out to show their respect. It is so beautiful.

And tomorrow evening we are going, of course, to see the film The Way Way Back. I am having a really wonderful time. But it wasn’t easy getting here.
On Tuesday morning we were awaken to a phone call from Delta advising that my morning flight to Salt Lake City had been canceled and they had rescheduled me on a noon flight with a connection through JFK.

I have long been a fan of Diane von Furstenberg. Her talents, her style and her wisdom impress the heck out of me. Yesterday’s The New York Times Magazine contained an article based on an interview with DVF by Andrew Goldman entitled ‘Like a Cowboy Going to a Saloon.’ The article referred to an interview question: “You married Barry Diller in 2001, but you don’t live in the same house in New York. Is that the secret to a great marriage?”
DVF answered “No, the secret to a great marriage is

My granddaughter Claire Whitney leaves for India on Saturday, June 22nd, with a group of Park City students and chaperones on a humanitarian aid trip. After a couple days sightseeing at the Taj Mahal they will travel on to Chennai where they will be working for 10 days with children in leprosy-afflicted colonies.
