As many of you know, our family went to NYC last week for Grace’s graduation from NYU. We arrived on Saturday afternoon, May 25. Robin had rented a 4 bedroom/4 bathroom apartment for us at 59th and First Avenue. We took Grace out for a family celebratory dinner at Isle of Capri, an Italian restaurant owned by the Lamanna Family located at 1028 Third Avenue at 61st Street. Food was great and the owner came to our table and told us about the history of the restaurant and that area of NY.
The restaurant was around the corner from Bloomingdales and within walking distance of our apartment so how much better could it get.
That was the beginning of many days of graduation events so stay tuned for news and pictures.

When I was a girl my stay-at-home mother made this delicacy every time we had watermelon. I made it a couple times when Robin was young so she could have an opportunity to taste it but have not made it in decades. Since this is “Life After the R Word” I didn’t throw away the rind from the watermelon we had this past weekend and used my free time this morning to make it. Yum. It is as good as I remembered.
For details and the recipe…

Today is my only daughter’s birthday. She has been a delight since the day she was born. When she was born her father Ralph was in the army stationed in Virginia. So my grandmother Florence and Ralph’s mother Mitzi went with me and played the excited “father” role. They were excited, especially Mitzi when the baby turned out to be a girl. Mitzi had 3 sons so was thrilled to get a granddaughter. The nurse had to shush them up they were so excited. So Robin entered the world with joy. And it has been fun and joy ever since.
Have a wonderful day sweetheart!

The May selection for the Cleveland Museum of Art Art and Fiction book club is Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland. This book covers the 15 year period from 1892 through 1908 during which Clara Wolcott Driscoll from Talmadge, OH, a talented glass designer, worked with and for Louis Comfort Tiffany in New York City. Prior to 2005 Clara’s involvement at Tiffany Studios was unknown and the story of that discovery is as interesting as is the book.

Dr. Oz has been running a series of programs on fat busting. A couple days ago he reported that Hot Pepper Jelly on your morning English Muffin would raise your metabolism by 20%. I immediately wrote Hot Pepper Jelly in the #1 position on my grocery list. About an hour later when Ralph announced he was going to Giant Eagle to buy lottery scratchers, I handed him the list.

Our ten year anniversary was in March 2013. I waited to make this post until I learned to display pictures by myself. I had a one-to-one lesson on pictures and managed to insert the cover of our July 16 book. See upcoming books. But when I dragged the picture from the meeting, it was upside down, showed the legs of the table and no people.
I go for another lesson at the Apple store on Thursday so will try again. Thanks for your patience.

Last night was the runway finally of the 11th season of Project Runway. The three finalists who competed last night were Michelle, Stanley and Patricia Michael. Sorry that I don’t remember the last names of Michelle and Stanley but last week I posted information about Patricia Michael, the first Native American to become a finalist. And the winner is…

PLI SmartBrief, an online newsletter I subscribe to, recently ran an item entitled “How to tell which job posts to skip over” which reminded me of a session I attended several years ago at a PDC [Professional Development Consortium] conference on “How Business People Reason.” The presenter, Peter C. Briant, was a former Professor of Economics and Accounting at McGill University and was leader of a 4-day program at McGill Executive Institute called “Accounting and Finance: Real-world financial skills for non-financial executives, top management and small business owners.”
“A decision is a moment in the process of time.”
